|
Preparation |
| To greatly enhance your chances of performing well at an interview and standing out from other candidates it is essential that you prepare thoroughly: |
- Ensure you have been provided with a detailed job description and that you understand the organisation and the team environment
- Research, research, research the organisation either through their website or annual report. Make sure you have a good understanding of their products, services, size, locations, financial position and growth potential.
- Make sure you know exactly where you are going for the job interview and always, always be on time!
- Dress conservatively and pay attention to all facets of your dress and grooming. Remember less is more.
- Know the interviewer's name and position.
- When you meet the interviewer use a firm handshake, direct eye contact, their name and have a friendly smile for everyone. You want this position, to work with these people, so treat everyone with respect!
- Review your experience and its relevance to the job description. Identify specific examples in your background that demonstrate your suitability for the position.
- Be sure to convey to the interviewer why this role appeals to you, why you should be considered ahead of other candidates.
- Know your strong points, your marketable skills that directly relate to the position that you are seeking. Explain to the interviewer, with confidence and conviction, why you are the right person for the position.
- Always display loyalty to your former employers - no matter what they did, you did, they didn't do, or you didn't do, never, never, never say anything negative about them under any circumstances!
- Prepare some questions that you may wish to ask during the interview - as you also need to consider whether the organisation will provide you with your career opportunities.
- Enthusiasm, enthusiasm, enthusiasm! Maintain a positive attitude and believe in yourself!!
